Teguise

Teguise, whose name was taken from the daughter of the last aboriginal king Guadarfía, was the capital of the island from the middle of the 15th century and until mid-1852, the fact that it was Atalaya allowed the locals to spot possible pirate incursions.
Since its soil was suitable for agriculture and also due to its strategic position, Teguise became the first urban and civil nucleus of Lanzarote.
Visiting the Villa de Teguise is like going back five hundred years in time since its majestic houses and cobbled streets still preserve their perfect condition.
